Learn How PTSD Can Affect Personal Relationships

PTSD & Personal Relationships

Maintaining healthy and positive relationships can be difficult even under the best of circumstances. This holds true for survivors of trauma and those with PTSD, as well as their loved ones. The symptoms of PTSD can often affect the way a survivor acts with others. In turn, the way a loved one responds to him or her affects the trauma survivor. A circular pattern can develop that may sometimes harm relationships.

For many, the eureka moment comes from the realization that these are symptoms of a solvable problem and not some inherent, personal flaw. Recognizing these feelings in oneself or a loved one as something that can be managed and treated is a step toward improvement.

The Department of Veterans Affairs recently featured this topic in the article to the right. In it, they outline the common symptoms, how they affect relationships, and what steps can be taken to manage them.

For example, you can store a copy of your auto insurance card and even a copy of your policy – now you’ll always know where to find them!
  • Insurance: Contact Information & Website Fields – We have added a place to keep track of all your important point of contact information for each of your insurance policies. No more frantic searches for policy numbers or an important email address or phone numbers.
  • Crisis Support & Healing – We’ve assembled a Resource Library Entry with a discreet yet comprehensive set of mental health resources. From immediate help to professional treatment, if you need someone to talk to or just want to see videos of other veterans telling their stories, and whether it’s for you or someone close to you, we at TeamVetCV want to increase the availability of the countless yet disparate resources already out there. Even if you may not personally need these resources right now, it’s still a good idea to familiarize yourself with them for the benefit of your friends and family. Remember to check on your buddies from time to time, it could save a life.

Wishing the VetCV Community Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays

TeamVetCV and our Patriot Partners wish you and your family a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!

Artistic Depiction of “The Christmas Truce” By Arthur C. Michael, The Illustrated London News, 1915

This Holiday Season, we hope you can set aside time to be with the most important people in your life. This is the time of year for us to all come together regardless of faith or creed under the values of peace on earth and goodwill toward men, remembering that we are more alike than we are different.

We understand that the Holidays can be a difficult and stressful time for many people, the Veteran community included. TeamVetCV invites you to check out Men Talking Mindfulness, a podcast hosted by Retired Navy SEAL Jon Macaskill and Will Schneider. This episode focuses on managing that particular strain of holiday stress. If you like them, please consider sharing the video with anyone you think will be interested.

Our offices will be closed December 24th – January 2nd. We will resume normal business hours on January 3rd. Happy Holidays!

U.S.M.C. 246th Birthday

TeamVetCV wishes a happy 246th birthday to all of our Marines

Happy Birthday Marines! We hope all of our Active Duty and Veteran Marines have the opportunity to look back on the proud history of battles fought and won since the Marine corps’ founding at Tun Tavern. We also hope that you can use the steel of that history to sharpen the steel of our future. This time of year is an opportunity for Marines young and old, Active and Veteran, to learn from one another and continue the tradition of excellence within the Marine corps and the life chapters that come after.

Semper Fidelis Marines.

Below, you can watch the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. David H. Berger, and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Sgt. Maj. Troy Black, deliver the 246th Marine corps birthday message. This very honest and inspiring message honors those who have come before while instilling confidence and pride in our current and future generations of Marines.

Get Your Public & Nonprofit Leadership Certification for Veterans From OSU

Develop your personal leadership style and
practical leadership skills at The Ohio State University John Glenn College of Public Affairs.

We all know that Leadership Skills and Military Service go hand in hand. Small unit leadership is the foundation of the U.S. Military’s strength. Ask any Marine, they’ll tell you that NCOs are the Backbone of the Marine corps. Many service members have even held leadership billets that outstrips their own rank. As Veterans, however, learning how to use our leadership skills in the civilian workforce can be challenging. It can sometimes feel like we’re speaking a different language from the business leaders who hire us. That’s why The Ohio State University John Glenn College of Public Affairs in collaboration with the National Veterans Memorial and Museum is thrilled to share this opportunity to obtain a Certificate in Public and Nonprofit Leadership for Veterans.

Participants of this course will deepen their self-awareness about leadership and how to lead others in the civilian workforce while further developing their personal leadership style. This is a great opportunity for VetCV Community Members who already have a degree to obtain a graduate level certification, but can also benefit those with a high school degree or GED.

The Public and Nonprofit Leadership for Veterans course consists of 12 one-day classes which are 100% online with face-to-face instruction and is six hours of academic credit for OSU. Tuition assistance and financial aid is available to qualifying applicants.

The next course starts January 14, 2022 and runs to April 22, 2022.

The deadline to apply is November 12.

TeamVetCV Supports the Special Operators Transition Foundation

Helping the SOF Veteran Community Navigate the Job Market

VetCV is proud to support the Special Operators Transition Foundation (SOTF) in their efforts to aid our Nation’s Finest find their place in the private sector. SOTF is an excellent resource for SOF Veterans transitioning into their civilian careers by leveraging the unique skills of Special Operations Forces Veterans, cultivating corporate partnerships, as well as providing assessments and mentorships.

VetCV’s CEO Niels Andersen recently attended a fundraising event for SOTF. This year’s keynote speaker was Rob O’Neil, former Navy SEAL best known for his actions during the raid which killed Osama Bin Laden and a founding member of SOTF.

“It was great to see Rob O’Neil again, a few of us had a little private time to share a few ‘stories’ before the event dinner as well,” Andersen said. “He’s a real American Hero and an important part of American History.”

Andersen also commended the foundation’s success under the leadership of Rob Kirila and looks forward to SOTF’s continued success after passing the leadership torch on to Tommy Stoner in 2020. We at TeamVetCV like what we’re seeing from the Special Operators Transition Foundation, and are excited to see what their Fellows will accomplish. These are the kinds of men that other brave men follow, and are the ones you always want on your side. If your organization is hiring leaders that will always be part of your solution, we strongly encourage you to learn more about SOTF and their graduates.

Happy Birthday Shipmates! We hope all of our Active Duty and Veteran Sailors can take the time to reflect on our Navy’s long history as well as what lies ahead. Hopefully you can find a way to celebrate, whether that’s looking through an old photo album or calling up a friend you served with.
